SMS is still king: Worldwide Messaging Revenues set to exceed USD 233 billion by 2014

SMS is still the king! We at prizeKing love SMS are pleased to report that SMS will continue to be a core driver for mobile data revenues for some time to come, despite gloomy economic conditions. This according to the latest market research report “Mobile Messaging Futures” released by Portio research.

We havent forked out the 3000 odd clams yet that Portio is asking for a copy – but Leading mobile news gurus Fierce Wireless reported some of the key stats as:

* Worldwide Messaging Revenues set to exceed USD 233 billion by 2014
* In 2009 worldwide SMS traffic topped 5 trillion messages, and that figure is set to exceed 10 trillion in 2013
* MMS revenues for 2009 amount to almost USD 27 billion
* Mobile IM revenues to be worth USD 18 billion by 2014
